Fashion Show and much more!” The 2026 Sugar Plum Market will take place at the
Stafford Centre from November 4th to November 7th, with a special Preview Night
Celebration kicking off the event on Wednesday, November 4th.

announce the recipients of the 2026 Volunteer Scholarships, awarded to six
exceptional young women who have demonstrated a strong commitment to service,
leadership, and community impact throughout Fort Bend County.

Following a competitive application process with an impressive pool of applicants,
the selected recipients distinguished themselves through their dedication to
volunteerism and their passion for making a difference in the lives of others.
Collectively, this year’s recipients contributed an impressive 2,954 volunteer hours
and achieved an average GPA of 3.87, reflecting both their academic excellence
and deep commitment to service.

The 2026 FBJSL Volunteer Scholarship recipients are: Anna Kate Beck, Ayushi
Kasotia, Olivia Porter, Aleena Qadri, Saige Sowa, and Sophie Zeng. “These young
women truly represent the heart of service in our community,” said Brandy
Edwards, FBJSL Scholarship Coordinator. “We are honored to support them as they
continue their educational journeys and carry forward a lifelong commitment to
giving back.”

The scholarship recipients were formally introduced at the League’s April
membership meeting, where they were recognized for their achievements and
welcomed by FBJSL members.

Funding for the scholarships is made possible through the League’s annual
fundraiser, Sugar Plum Market, a fully volunteer-run holiday shopping event. Thanks
to the dedication and hard work of FBJSL members, the League is able to reinvest
proceeds directly into the community through scholarships and grants.
FBJSL has proudly contributed more than $6 million back to Fort Bend County
nonprofits and initiatives, supporting over 100 organizations and dedicating more
than 200,000 volunteer hours in service to the community.

The celebration kicks off with a special Preview Night on Wednesday, November 5.

More than just a shopping event, the Sugar Plum Market is a community tradition that brings together holiday cheer, unique vendors, and a spirit of giving. This grant will assist the non-profit organization in the purchase of a new delivery vehicle, which is vital for their mission of providing nourishing meals and critical services to home-bound seniors across the county.

Fort Bend Seniors relies on its delivery vans to transport daily and weekly hot meals to seniors, covering all areas of the county five days a week. In addition to meal delivery, Fort Bend Seniors operates seven senior activity centers where seniors gather for daily meals and participate in various activities that promote social interaction, physical well-being, and mental stimulation.

The Fort Bend Junior Service League’s Community Assistance Fund (CAF) provides essential financial support to local organizations that serve the needs of the Fort Bend community. By awarding grants like this one, the FBJSL continues to support non-profits that make a meaningful difference in the lives of Fort Bend County residents.

“We are honored to support Fort Bend Seniors with this grant, as they play such a vital role in the lives of our senior population. This year, FBJSL’s Sugar Plum Market raised and awarded over $335,000 to support local nonprofits, including $35,400 to the FBJSL Community Assistance Fund, which provides emergency grants to nonprofits for critical and immediate needs in Fort Bend County.

To commemorate this achievement and the League’s decade-long partnership with Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, a check presentation ceremony was held at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital. This event celebrated the collaborative efforts between FBJSL and Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, which have significantly advanced community health and wellness through volunteerism and philanthropy over the past 10 years.

Kelsea Weatherford, FBJSL President, shared her enthusiasm for the League’s accomplishments, stating, “Reaching over $6 million in total contributions to Fort Bend County nonprofits is an incredible milestone that reflects the unwavering commitment of our members, sponsors, and community partners. We are also thrilled to celebrate a decade of partnership with Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, which has been instrumental in helping us support organizations that make a real difference in the lives of so many Fort Bend County residents.”

Supporting Local Families in Need

We’re proud to announce that our Community Assistance Fund (CAF) grant has been awarded to Families Helping Families. This grant will help support their Thanksgiving Food Drive, providing a week’s worth of groceries to low-income families in the Stafford school district. Our donation will make a significant difference in the lives of these families during the holiday season.

 

Empowering Students through Scholarship Awards

We’re now accepting applications for our annual Scholarship Awards. If you’re a female high school senior in Fort Bend County who has demonstrated outstanding volunteerism and community service, you may be eligible for one of our $1,000 Volunteer Scholarships. These scholarships aim to support Fort Bend County women in achieving their higher education
aspirations, with awards to be presented in the spring of 2025. FBJSL is offering up to six $1,000 Volunteer Scholarships and one $2,000 New Beginnings Scholarship.

The Volunteer Scholarships are available to female high school seniors who are residents of Fort Bend County. Applicants must demonstrate exceptional dedication to volunteerism and community service, complete a minimum of 100 hours of community service, maintain a GPA of at least 2.5, and plan to enroll in an accredited two- or four-year college or university. The New Beginnings Scholarship is designed to empower adult women in Fort Bend County by enhancing their career opportunities through continued education. Eligible candidates
should be returning to school after a break in their education, demonstrate financial need, and have been accepted into an accredited college, university, or vocational school.

“These scholarships reflect FBJSL’s commitment to empowering women and investing in the future of our community,” said FBJSL President Kelsea Weatherford. “We are honored to support both young women pursuing their academic goals and adult women seeking to advance their careers through education.”

Each League year, the Fort Bend Junior Service League reviews event beneficiary applicants based on the needs of those agencies and the goals of our organization. The committee recently concluded in-person interviews with approximately 40 Event Beneficiary applicants. FBJSL selects beneficiaries that will thrive due to our support. These organizations provide vital services to Fort Bend County, and funds raised at the annual Sugar Plum Market will significantly impact their efforts.
