This year marks 20 years the women of the Fort Bend Junior Service League (FBJSL) have been enjoying camaraderie, friendship, and the joys of volunteering together to make Fort Bend County a better place. Since its inception in 2001, FBJSL has raised over $4.5 million dollars for charitable 501(c)(3) organizations in our community. Additionally, the ladies of FBJSL have worked tirelessly volunteering and have provided an amazing 200,000+ volunteer service hours annually to our county.
Members have the opportunity to volunteer with any of our Core Placements. These agencies each meet an important and diverse need for our community and serve a wide spectrum of Fort Bend County residents. We conduct a bi-annual review of placements and explore opportunities to work with new ones. Our current Core Placements include Gigi’s Playhouse, Lunches of Love, Child Advocates of Fort Bend, and Reining Strength along with our League Placements of Sugar Plum Market and Fort Bend Teen Service League.
In addition to volunteering with our Placements, members of FBJSL work on our largest event, the Sugar Plum Market. The Market is our annual fun-filled premier holiday shopping extravaganza with more than 100 vendors and is 100% volunteer run. Ladies in the League work on this event year-round and last year’s record-breaking year raised over $345,000 for more than 25 deserving Fort Bend County charitable organizations. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has affected the planning of our 20th annual Sugar Plum Market but our wonderful Co-Chairs are hard at work planning our 1st annual Sugar Plum Marketplace, Virtual Holiday Shopping Affair! This year’s theme ‘Let There Be Peace on Earth’ is very fitting with all that is currently happening in our world. This event is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3rd through Sunday, November 8th, 2020. We will still have our same wonderful vendors as well as some exciting new ones and you can enjoy shopping from your own sofa. Please stay tuned for more details to be announced as they emerge.
